I'm a person who loves to look good, and who doesn't?! =D But I have complex combination extremely sensitive skin and I know there are others like me out there! This blog is to show mainly my skincare product reviews to help others with skin issues like me! I hope that you will find this useful and encouraging!
To celebrate here is a review on the Dolly Wink Eyeshadow Palette in 01 Brown!
This product costs about $17-$24. It is sold online, or at Marukai, Mitsuwa, and Takashima.
What do I think of this product?
When this product first came out, it cost about $17. I really wanted to try the product but I felt it was too expensive at the time and I wanted to wait for the price to drop. However (like the urban decay palette), it got very popular and the price actually rose to about $23 and stayed there for a while. Made me sad =(.
But one day I saw it back to its old price and I took the opportunity to buy it!
There are 4 colors (left to right or a-d): a: a shimmery warm copper b: a shimmery pale yellow c: a shimmery chestnut bronze brown d: a soft shimmery cool dark brown
The palette is small and cute, great for traveling. I found the colors to be very good for everyday use and can be used for a day look to night look. The eyeshadows do not irritate or hurt my eyes in any way. All of the colors are well pigmented, soft, easily blendable and easy to build up. The eyeshadows also are amazingly long lasting and crease-resistant (when I wear an eyeshadow primer, which I always do). I was so surprised after wearing these eyeshadows from 8am till 6pm to find no creasing or fade at all! I am pretty used to a little creasing near the end of the day, but not this product! It stayed on well all day long! =D
I still think that this product is a little bit expensive, however, I found it to be a good investment because the quality of the eyeshadows are excellent! Here are a few swatches of the eyeshadows:
I hope you did not mind that I did not label them this time. I thought that the colors themselves were pretty different and distinct enough to tell the difference.
For each picture starting from the top swatch to the bottom is "a" through "d".
Do I recommend this product?
If you don't mind the price and are looking for a high quality everyday eyeshadow palette, I definitely recommend this product. Especially if you are looking for a good everyday set of eyeshadow colors or do not own a lot of eyeshadows. It may be pricy but the quality is amazing! These brown shades also look beautiful with any eye color!
There are also 2 other palettes from the same line with different colors if you are interested.
Also, FYI, if you see a palette selling for more than $24, don't buy it. They are trying to cheat you and the standard price in Japan is about $23 US dollars. So please, don't get scammed.
So I hope that you liked this review! Feel free to ask any questions or comments in the comment box below! Thank you for reading and I will see you later! =)
I've been sick =(, and I have 2 tests on Monday next week...T_T. But to give myself a break, I'll write a review!
Today I am reviewing the well known "Make Up Forever" Aqua Eyes Eyeliner in Champagne
This product costs about $20 and can be bought online or sold at Sephora.
What do I think of this product?
I rarely ever buy brand-named products, even if they are high quality. The price is usually too much for me and I am afraid of getting hooked onto some expensive products, even if they are super good quality. If you know me, I only have 1 product by MAC and 6 eyeliners by Urban Decay which were on sale. I like to spend more money on skincare =P.
The reason why I decided to buy this product was that my NYX jumbo eye pencils, despite being very pretty and well pigmented, were too creamy for my eyes. They creased easily within an hour on my oily eyelids (T_T) and easily built up in the inner corners of my eyes at the end of the day, which....looks kind of gross. I don't know how noticeable the build up is to others, but I don't like it. =P
I still really like my NXY jumbo eye pencils, and I know I wrote a positive review, but I wanted to find something better.
I heard of the staying power of the Aqua Eyes eyeliners and how they are super waterproof and long lasting, so first I tried it on in stores. I was pretty impressed with the eyeliner, I used it on the inner corners of my eyes and on my lower lashline and it stayed there all day without fading or smudging!
I decided to buy Champagne to brighten the inner corners of my eyes and my lower lashline. This eyeliner does not irritate or redden the skin around my eyes or my eyes. The product is very well pigmented. Even though the big picture above shows a more pink toned color, I find the color to be a more golden champagne color. (I will have a swatch below).
The eyeliner is less creamy and more dry than the urban decay eyeliner, but definitely will not smudge or fade. I do find that my urban decay eyeliners will fade and smudge just a little to my lower lashline at the end of the day. Because Champagne is more dry, it does tend to dry faster and is a little harder to blend, but as long as you blend it soon after application, there is not a problem.
I really enjoy using this eyeliner, really brightens up my eyes and lasts all day long without building up in the inner corner of my eyes! I use it everyday!! =D
I have tried to use this on my eyelids and, unfortunately, it still creases on the inner half of my eyelids where my eyelids are the most oily. =( However, for the rest of my eyelids, it does not crease and gives a great brightening effect to my eyes. I think I will mainly use this for the inner corners of my eyes and my lower lashline.
Overall for my purposes this eyeliner works very well, a little goes a long way and I don't need to sharpen the pencil often. I think it was a good investment. I'm not sure if I will buy this again because of how expensive it is. Perhaps I may find a cheaper alternative, but for now I really like this eyeliner!
Here are few swatches:
Do I recommend this product?
If you do not mind the price, I do recommend this eyeliner.
If you are a beginner to makeup, just make sure to invest wisely in the products you buy. I'm not telling you to not buy this product if you are a beginner, but just do a little research and try cheaper alternatives before going up in price. Especially if you are not a professional makeup artist. Just a tip to help you save some money! Quick story: I had a friend who was completely new to makeup and her friend (who was crazy about makeup) brought her to Sephora and told her to buy a lot of MAC, Urban Decay, Make Up Forever, Too Faced, and Benefit products. They were high quality products, but they were expensive. And we are just college students who get paid around $9/hr in our part-time jobs, and I knew my friend did not use makeup everyday and was not that interested in makeup. She only used it for dance, which had a performance less than a dozen times per year, and after college she didn't dance anymore. So really, it was a waste of her money. The moral of this story is: know what you are getting yourself into, and think about whether you really want it or need it and how often you are going to use it.
So I hope you like this review! Feel free to write in the comment box below if you have any questions or comments. Thank you for reading! =)
I am super sorry I haven't been updating as much as I would like to! I left my cell phone charger in LA, and I actually take my swatch pictures with that phone (not bad quality right?), so I was phoneless for a week...T_T. I went back to get it over the weekend so yay! I hope you had a good weekend, let's get started with a great eyeliner! XP
Today I am reviewing the Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner in brown!
In the picture shown above. Dolly Wink sells two colors of liquid eyeliner: black (on the left) and brown (on the right).
I decided to buy the brown liquid eyeliner since I had the black K-palette liquid eyeliner already.
This product costs about $17-$21.
It can be found online on Amazon, Sasa and in stores like Takashima.
What do I think of this product?
I have used this eyeliner for at least 2 months now and before I bought it, I was wondering whether to buy it or not. Because it is kind of expensive for an eyeliner. It is about the same price as those top brands in Sephora!
So, the eyeliner applicator is a hair brush with a very clean and fine tip. The fine tip gives it great control and precision and you can draw thick or very thin fine lines. It is a liquid liner that gives a great smooth consistency. It is very water resistant and long lasting! I can wear this all day, in the rain, in super hot weather, and it will not melt, smudge or smear. The formula does not irritate or redden my eyes.
Funny story actually, I was in my lab today, and I turned the faucet the wrong way when filling up something with water. And water just sprayed all over my face from the high pressure, especially hitting my right eye. And I went to the bathroom to clean up and wa-la! Not a bit of smudging from my eyeliner! Yay! XD
Anyway =P, the brown color is a nice brown chocolate color and I think it looks more natural and softer than a black liquid liner.
I like to use this eyeliner in my everyday makeup routine and it works wonderfully! So far, it has not dried out, or had any technical problems and I'm happy that I got it. =)
For those of you who want a black liquid liner: If you are wondering whether to buy the K-Palette black liquid eyeliner or the Dolly Wink black liquid eyeliner, I would say go for whichever one is cheaper. Really, they are basically the same thing, with the same brush tip and contain great long-lasting and waterproof formulas. And if K-Palette has a brown liquid eyeliner, I'm sure that would work just as well!
Here are a couple pictures and swatches:
So this is what the brush tip looks like. It kind of reminds me of a Chinese calligraphy brush. It is made up of many fine synthetic hairs that taper to a point.
You can see the brown color from these swatches. A nice medium brown, reminds me of chocolate. XD (or milk chocolate to be more precise). If it is not deep enough, you can always build up the color without any fear of cracking, flaking, etc.
This is a thicker line on my eye. The brown in a little darker and deeper than my eyes, but not as harsh or as sharp as black. So it gives a more natural look.
Check out how thin I can draw this eyeliner. Really really thin! And close to my lashline too! =D
Do I recommend this product?
Despite the price (and if you can get it without much trouble), I think this is a great product to invest in and I recommend this eyeliner. I think that this is a great eyeliner to invest in. It is very long lasting, water resistant, looks great, and overall works well.
So I hope you enjoyed reading this post! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to write in the comment box below! Have a great rest of the week and I will see you later. =D
Welcome to the 5th Sasa Haul and Review! =D
I have bought 3 products:
- DOT DOT Eyeliner Gel Pencil 36 H Water Resistant in shimmer black - K-Palette Pencil Eyeliner in black - Mentholatum ACNES Acne Point Clear
I have used these products for at least 2 months.
DOT DOT Eyeliner Gel Pencil 36 H Water Resistant in shimmer black
This product costs $6.50 and you get 1 eyeliner and a sharpener.
It is said to last for 36 hours and is sweat-proof, tear-proof and sebum-proof.And they said you can use it as an eyeliner or eyeshadow. Cautions (from the box): Avoid contact with eyes. If contact occurs, rinse eyes thoroughly with water.
What do I think of this product?
So, I had a few issues with this pencil eyeliner. =P
The pencil comes with a cap and a pencil sharpener.
So, my first problem was that the cap was nearly impossible to take off. -__- I pulled and pulled with a lot of force and it did not come off. So, I ended up using my teeth (yes, yes bad I know) to yank the darn cap off, because I could just not pull it off!
Second problem was that with this pencil sharpener, I couldn't really sharpen to a nice point. It always sort of sharpens up halfway and just stays there so...I kind of gave up on that. Also, the pencil lead inside broke =(, probably in the shipping process.
The formula of this eyeliner is kind of dry and sticky. I think this is because it is a very waterproof formula, so the formula is on the drier and stickier side. If I try to use this pencil eyeliner directly on my eye, first, the tip was not thin, so I could not really draw a nice thinner line and because of the sticky formula, it pulls and tugs on the skin around my eyes and my eyelids. So, basically, it didn't work well with me. However, I did try to use it another way. I dabbed my thin eyeliner brush (flat wing kind) onto the tip of the pencil and would draw the eyeliner onto my eye, as if I was using a gel or cream eyeliner. And in this way, it works pretty well. There is no tugging of my skin. I can draw a pretty thin line and if I want to I can smudge it out for a softer look. It is pretty long lasting like it says and I don't really need to set it with powder unless the weather is hot and humid. So, in this way I can use it, and I like it.
Judging from the Cautions on the eyeliner box, I am not going to use this to tightline or waterline my eyes. Perhaps it has substances that irritate the eyes.
Also, it does have gold shimmer in it, but it doesn't really show up, it just looks black. It is not a very intense black, kind of normal and on the lighter side for some maybe.
Here are some pictures and swatches:
Can you see the scratches and dents on the cap? Yeah, from my teeth. =P
=/
So, I know it doesn't look very dark, but using my eyeliner brush, the color is more concentrated and darker on my eyes.
Do I recommend this product?
If you want a pencil eyeliner that you can use directly on your eyes and don't want it to tug on your eyes, then I do not recommend this product. However, if you don't mind using it in a different way, like me, it may take more time, but it is not a bad product and I think it's worth a shot!
K-Palette Pencil Eyeliner in black
This product costs $18.60. The eyeliner is said to be waterproof at last for 24 hours in any condition. It is said to not smudge or budge but can be removed easily with a makeup remover.
What do I think of this product?
So, this pencil eyeliner is pretty interesting. The cap screws on and off, which is pretty nice and you know that the cap won't fall off accidentally on its own!
The pencil lead inside is very slim and thin and is twisted up or down. This is really convenient because it has a fine point and I don't have to worry about sharpening and wasting eyeliner.
The formula is on the drier and stickier side being very waterproof. It does tug a little on my eyelids if I want to draw eyeliner on my eyes so I do prefer my Dolly Wink pencil liners (brown or black) because even though they are a little less waterproof, they are softer, creamier, and easier to work with.
However, I really like to thicken my lashline and tightline my eyes (fill the upper waterline of your eyes). This is a very long lasting pencil eyeliner. I really like it. I still will set it with a dark eyeshadow powder if I use it on my lashline because I have really oily eyelids and if I apply alone it will smudge...='(, yes sad, but this is a good product and worth the money for me. X)
It tends to dry pretty quickly and I will show you a short video clip of no matter how much I rub my skin, this pencil eyeliner does not smear at all! The color is a strong dark black that won't fade.
And I don't have a problem removing this product with my eye makeup remover!
Here are some pictures, swatches, and the video:
Sorry for the poor quality of this video, filming at night again. X( I hope that you can see that the pencil did not smudge off at all! It is really strong.
Do I recommend this product?
I recommend this product! It is very waterproof and the color is a strong black. If you tend to have oily eyelids like me, just set it with an eyeshadow powder. But if you don't, then you don't have to worry about that! The only issue you may have is the tugging of the skin when you use this as an eyeliner. =/ My advice for you is to use small/short dabbing strokes and connect the eyeliner together with that. This is no kohl eyeliner, don't try drawing a single long stroke, it's not going to happen. =P But as for waterlining, and tightlining, this is a great product!
Mentholatum ACNES Acne Point Clear
This product costs $5.70 and contains 9mL of product.
What do I think of this product? And do I recommend this product?
I have bought and reviewed this product before in my third Sasa Haul. If you would like more information, please click on the link in the previous sentence.
Overall, this product does not work for acne (as in treating and preventing acne) but it works very well for reducing swelling and redness. It does not irritate or dry out my sensitive skin and I really like it. I recommend this to anyone who tends to get redness or swelling on the face, especially after scratching or popping a pimple.
So I hope you liked this haul and that it was informative to you in some way =P. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to write in the comment box below! Thank you for reading and I will see you later! ^_^
Hi wonderful people!
Today I will review the NYX Slide on Pencil Liners:
These eyeliners about about $8. You can buy it at Ulta or online. They come in a variety of colors and are usually pretty shimmery. Please! Don't confuse this w/ NYX's Slim Eye Pencil, they may look the same but the quality and performance is much different! You can tell the difference between them when you open the cap and the Slide on Pencil Liner has black stained wood.
What do I think of this product?
Even though, as an eyeliner, they are a little pricy to me. (like, I can buy a meal w/ $8...so =P) I think these eyeliners are great! They are very creamy and soft. They are very easy to apply and do not tug on the eye skin. They slide on beautifully and are very pigmented! I really like the fact that they are so smooth and easy to apply. Most of the are very shimmery, however, you can buy matt colors of these eyeliners. I have a matt white, shimmer gunmetal gray, deep purple, and shimmer silver and they have worked wonderfully! The color slides on easily without much effort and they don't pile up (creating a layer of heavy makeup) or clump together.
After application, the eyeliner will dry quickly on the face. And they do not smudge or smear. I'm wearing one of the eyeliners right now actually and I just rubbed my eye, hard!, and I was surprised that almost nothing came off, just a bit of shimmer. I am not sure how long they last on their own, I have not timed this one yet. But if I'm out clubbing, I will spray a makeup setting spray and they can last all night long!
Possibly the only concern to some is that you have to use a pencil shaver to get more product or to make a pointy tip. This can waste some product with the shavings. However, I don't use these eyeliners often and I would only use them for certain events such as dances, clubbing, a nice party, etc. and I know that all makeup expires, so I don't mind that.
Do I recommend this product?
Yes! ^_^ If you don't mind having to use a pencil sharpener for eyeliners then I recommend this product! Especially if you like shimmery eyeliners! These are so great because they slide on so well and easily. Therefore, there will be no tugging of the eyelid and you are less likely to get wrinkles! yay! XD
Compared to brand named eyeliners like MAC, they are very affordable and work just as well. I think a pencil eyeliner in MAC is around $24, and when I saw that, I was like O_O wtf, $24???!!! I can eat 3 meals or treat my bf out to dinner! So really, try these! Yeah, maybe MAC or whatever brand name product feels a little more creamy, or is a little bit more pigmented or whatever, but is it really worth the $24? Unless you're a makeup artist, I don't think so. So, I think this is a great alternative, especially if you are new to makeup and don't want to waste money!
If you are still worried about smearing, for everyday use, I recommend using a powder of the same color to set the eyeliner and for special occasions use a make up setting spray. I live in southern California so it is not very humid or rainy here.
I hope this post helped you in your makeup shopping/searching! XP Thank you for reading! If you have any questions or comments feel free to write in the comment box below.
Sorry I've been kind of not here lately =P. My bf came to visit and it will be the last time I see him in person before the quarter ends, so we won't be seeing each other for 3 weeks. And of course, finals are coming, and I will be studying a lot!
Hi Everyone! I hope you are having a good weekend!
Today I will be reviewing the K-Palette 1 Day Tattoo Eyeliner!
This eyeliner is about $15-20 depending on where you buy it. You can find it online, Amazon has it for a good price or if you have a Marukai or Mitsuwa near you, they sell them too!
This eyeliner has claimed to last for a very long time, for 24hrs and that it is waterproof and sweatproof. K-palette has created different looks/appearances for their 1-day tattoo eyeliner but they're all basically the same in quality. K-Palette is the one of the top 3 makeup brands in Japan. Because of the humid Asian environment, it makes very long lasting pigmented makeup products that are usually waterproof and/or sweatproof and its products are very popular!
First Impression
My first impression was how fine the applicator is. It is a brush tip, like so:
It is not felt, it's artificial brush hairs like a calligraphy brush and it is very soft! It can create very very fine lines and thick lines so it's versatile. The color is very black and b/c it is a liquid eyeliner it can create a very clean and defined look. It is not too runny or too thick, the consistency and formula is very good.
It lasts for a very long time and it is really strong against resistance. I drew on my hand and it dried quickly and I rubbed my skin really hard and none of it came off! Yes, it is a good waterproof formula too! If you wear it for a very very long time, it does start lightening a little bit, getting a little flaky, but it's not going to have a lot of fall out, it just gets a crackly appearance that is not too visible. It does not smudge at all, even when I draw it very thickly.
What do I think of it now?
It is kind of pricy but I think it is worth the price. I've had this for a year now and I still have not run out of it and it hasn't dried out! I really like using this liner when I'm going out clubbing or when it's raining because it is so long lasting and waterproof!
The amount of product on your eyes is also very little, it is not thick or heavy and yet it is still a small thin layer with a great black color!
I recently went on a 7 mile hike in the hot sun at around 80F, getting all hot and sweaty wearing this eyeliner and wow! It was amazing! XD It lasted the entire 5 hours outside and it did not melt, smudge or lose any color! So I am pretty impressed with what this eyeliner can do, especially since I have oily eye lids.
UPDATE!: I recently went to Hawaii and I wore this in Hawaii. It is fine with humid and hot weather. It does not smear or melt off. At the beach, if you swim, the eyeliner will come off, but it won't make a big mess. It will just flake off and won't go into your eyes or smear black everywhere. If you wear goggles and you swim at the beach, the eyeliner stays on pretty well, and maybe gets a bit lighter, but overall, very good hold and no melting.
Do I recommend this product?
If you do not mind the price and your willing to invest in a good liquid liner, I definitely recommend this liquid liner! It is long lasting, very black, clean, precise, and waterproof. The eyeliner itself also lasts for a long time, just remember when you store it to let it lay flat or point the tip downwards.
So, yeah, I really like this eyeliner and I hope you will try it out! If you have any questions or comments feel free to type in the comment box below!
Thanks for reading and I will talk to you guys later! =)
P.S. I would also like to thank my readers! I have reached over 500 views on my blog from so many different countries all over the world! I don't know what's the norm but I was pretty impressed and very happy that people read my blog and it was pretty amazing to see where these people where from. It was like a sort of global eye opening experience and I felt somewhat connected or touched that someone from Brazil or Taiwan were looking and reading my blog! Thank you for reading what I have to say, even though I'm no expert or not famous haha. This makes me very motivated to give better reviews and posts for you guys and I'm very happy if I'm helping someone out there who's confused or frustrated about skincare, makeup, etc. I like blogging reviews and info posts and I will continue to do so! Again, thank you all! =D Bye byee! X)
So, in this post I will be talking about makeup setting sprays and review one by Urban Decay.
Makeup setting sprays are sprays designed to help makeup last longer on the face. They act in the same way as a primer but on top/from the outside. These setting sprays prevent makeup from smudging and melting off. People usually use them if they are spending a long day with makeup on, if they are going to a hot and humid place, or going to a night out where it will definitely get hot and muggy like clubbing and if they have oily skin (where makeup tends to slip more easily).
However, you should not use makeup setting sprays too often because most of them contain some kind of alcohol which can dry out your skin. And when you spray you don't need a lot, I'd say 4 spritz at most, and one more for the neck. Urban decay recommends 2 sprays for a "cross" motion and 2 sprays for an "X" motion.
So, here is the Urban Decay All Night Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray:
The one I have is travel size. I don't use it too often so it is enough for me.
Being Urban Decay, yes it's pricy, for a regular size bottle (4 fluid oz or 118mL) it is $29.
It is said to last 16 hrs.
What do I think of this product?
But being Urban Decay, yes, it's good, haha. I haven't tested the 16hrs but my friend (who has extremely oily skin) has used this for at least 12 hrs! And she loves it!
Do I like it? Haha, of course I do! I have used this for about a year and because I have the travel size it's very portable. And for dances and clubbing it lasts really well. While all my friend's makeup melts and smears, mine is perfectly fine, all night long! ;D
This product does not break me out. My skin does not feel itchy or get irritated or turn red when using it. Just make sure to close your eyes when using it and leave your eyes closed after spraying so the vapors don't sting your eyes!
The funny thing is, if you look at the back, it says "Made by Skindinavia", so actually, it's a Skindinavia product, not really Urban Decay. And I know that Skindinavia setting sprays are very high quality but much more expensive, so I'm sticking to the Urban Decay one.
Do I recommend this product?
For its price, it's kind of a downer. I'm a cheap person and a college student so it is a bit much. If you don't go out too often or don't use a lot of makeup that often and you live in a drier area (like me, California) then I think you should opt for the travel size. You can find the travel size in any Sephora or Ulta store. Or you and your friends can buy one a share one together!
Overall, yes! I do recommend this product! It works really well and there's nothing else I can say about it! =D
So I hope for those of you looking to help your makeup last longer, that you try this option and I hoped this post helped in your decision making!
Thanks for reading!
Byee! ^_^
Update: The "All Nighter" Setting Spray has had a makeover with a new look, but essentially works the same and just as well as the previous model.
