Review on "The Body Shop" Satsuma Shimmer Born Lippy

Today I am reviewing on "The Body Shop" Satsuma Shimmer Born Lippy

 

This product costs $6 and contains 9g, 10mL, or 0.3 oz of product. You can buy this online or at The Body Shop store. I'm sure there are little promotions that sell like 2 of these for $10 at the store, so you can take a look.

What do I think of this product?

This was something I kind of wanted to try for fun. I'm more than halfway done on my EOS lip balm and I just wanted to look around for something new.

This lip balm is in a little pot and has a very nice citrus/orange smell to it. However, if you accidentally lick it or eat it, it doesn't taste good, just a chapstick taste. =P While the lip balm itself does have color, it does not added a lot of color to the lips, if that is what you are looking for. It pretty much is like a clear lip balm.

It does have a bit of shimmer in it, which I don't mind. It is not a crazy shimmer, so it won't make your lips look weird. And it does make my lips look kind of cute and pouty without the weird overly shiny look like some lip products.

However, I need a lot of product to make my lips hydrated and it does not last very long, which means I have to reapply. For my EOS lip balm, two swipes on my lower lip is enough for me to spread it out and make my lips really soft and hydrated. However, I need to take a small chunk of the satsuma born lippy to make my lips feel just as hydrated. Also, it does have a slightly sticky texture and feeling on my lips that reminds me of lipgloss, which I don't like. 

Another issue I have with this is that I need to dip my fingers in, take out product, and apply onto my lips, which leaves my fingers with residual sticky product on them. That is kind of annoying to always have to wipe my fingers clean and it is not really hygienic unless I wash my hands every single time before I use this!

Hmm, I think this lip balm is okay, like it works, but I would not buy it again.

Do I recommended this product?

Honestly, I think that you can find a better lip balm with a lower cost, so no, I do not recommend this product. If you like to buy and collect these things for fun, I guess maybe =P, but in terms of function and convenience you can definitely find something better!

Review on NYX 5 Color Shadow The Caribbean Collection

I'm sorry I've been neglecting my posts! DX I just took a midterm this morning and I am finally free to write a review!

Today I am going to review on the NYX 5 Color Shadow The Caribbean Collection in
 "I Dream of Jamaica"

This product costs $15 at the NYX online website in Canada but I believe that I got this for about $10 (in some small asian makeup store). The net weight of the shadows are 0.28 oz or 8 grams.
You can find this online, or in random small makeup stores that happen to sell NYX products.

What do I think of this product?
I was wondering a little if this is a copycat of NYX but I am not sure. This is sold online on the NYX website in Canada but I do not see it on the online website for the US. Perhaps it is a discontinued product? I am not sure, but it looks very much like NYX and the Canadian website looks legitimate. I think it is safe to believe that it is indeed a NYX product but I leave the benefit of the doubt to you. =P Edit: This is a legit but discontinued NYX product!
I bought this in the Santa Anita mall in Pasadena last year during the summer in a new and tiny asian makeup store (the name I forgot). And they were selling loads of NYX products.
Anyway, so I bought this eyeshadow palette because I wanted sort of a natural palette that I could just travel around with me on short trips. And I wanted distinctly different shades of brown, not the eyeshadow palettes that have some shades of colors that look subtly different in the pan but the same on the skin.

So from left to right(following the swatches and palette picture above):
1st color is a very light and shimmery coral-pink color
2nd color is a very light and shimmery champagne-yellow color
3rd color is a sort of shimmery grey-brown color
4th color is a soft shimmery dark brown color
5th color is a soft shimmery very dark brown-black color

The coral-pink and the champagne-yellow color show more of a difference on the eyes than the swatches. You can see a gradation of brown colors from a lighter brown to the darkest brown.

I have tried this out and overall I do like the colors. I can use them for everyday or for a smokey eye look. The coral light pink and champagne-yellow colors I can use to highlight the inner corners of my eyes or the ball of my eyelids. I can use the very dark brown-black color to line my lashline for a soft and natural look.
The pigmentation is okay/kind of normal. I think it could be better. I always use an eyeshadow primer to make the colors stronger and more vivid so it works well enough for me.
The eyeshadows apply evenly and are easily to blendable and buildable. But, the eyeshadows are a bit powdery so I need to work with them carefully and there is some eyeshadow fallout onto my cheeks when I apply the eyeshadow onto my eyes, sometimes even when I tap the excess off my brush. It is not alot of fallout, and fallout is greatly diminished when I tap off excess. But, fallout is pretty annoying and I don't like dealing with it which is probably my main concern with this eyeshadow palette. I do not use this palette as often as I would like to because of the fallout. Pigmentation can be built up with layering but fallout is difficult to fix.

Do I recommend this product?
If you do not like fallout, then I do not recommend this eyeshadow palette. If you do not mind eyeshadow fallout or you can deal with it, I think this is a good palette to try. The colors are a good variety and you can create a lot of looks with it. Just keep in mind that they are all shimmery to varying degrees, and the 5th color is the least shimmery.

Review on Milani Eye Tech Extreme liquid eyeliner

I'm sorry for not posting in over a week! =O I was so busy with school work and now it's like first round of midterms and everyone is cramming like crazy! I just turned in a mammalian physiology lab report today and it took me 5 hrs to work on figures and about 7 hrs to write the whole thing. I need a break, so that's why I'm here, haha. XP

So today I am reviewing the Milani Eye Tech Extreme liquid eyeliner:

This product can be found at any drugstore like Target, Walgreens, CVS or at Ulta. It costs around $7.

What do I think of this product?
So this product was given to me by a friend. She said it worked really well for her and I decided to try it out. I was also looking for something cheaper than my K-palette eyeliner.
Overall, I think it is a pretty good eyeliner, not bad, but it does have its ups and downs.
This is a felt tip black liquid eyeliner that is easily accessible and very affordable. The consistency is smooth and easy to work with and the color is very black. The formula does not irritate my eyes. I do prefer brush or felt tip liners because I like some structure in the liner and I feel it gives me better control. It is pretty long lasting and the color does not fade the entire day and it is water resistant. However in certain situations it does smudge.
Because I have oily eyelids, if I draw the eyeliner too thick and eye, the folded area or double eyelid area can touch the eyeliner and smudge it to the upper region of my eyelids. I have small double eyelids, so when I open my eyes, the skin folds over, sometimes touching the eyeliner if it is too thick. So when this eyeliner comes into contact with the folded skin, the oils from my eyelids make it smear. =( (However, my K-palette eyeliner never does that!)
If I draw a thin line for my eyeliner, so that my small double eyelid folds don't touch my eyeliner, then I do not have smudging and I'm fine for the whole day! I can also use this to fill my lashline (the spaces between my eyelashes) and that works pretty well too.
I think this is great for a more natural look with a thinly drawn eyeliner on the eyes and filled in lashline. It would be great as a travel eyeliner because it is inexpensive and because it is not as perfect as my K-palette eyeliner, I would not be too sad if I lost it, haha.

Do I recommend this product?
I do not recommend this eyeliner if you have oily eyelids and you have monolids, hooded eyelids, and/or a small double eyelid or fold. Especially if you like to draw a thicker line for your eyeliner, this eyeliner may cause a lot of smudging in the folded skin area of you eyes.
If you have a small double eyelid or fold and still want to try this eyeliner, I suggest that you line your lashline and make the eyeliner as thin and as close to your eyelashes as possible. Because that area will not fold into your skin when you open your eyes, and will not smudge.
However, if your eyelids are not that oily and you have a larger double eyelid or fold, then I think this as a great product to try!

Review on "The Body Shop" Aloe Eye Defense gel-creme

Today I will be reviewing "The Body Shop" Aloe Eye Defense

The product cost about $18 online or in The Body Shop store.
It contains 15mL or 0.5 fluid oz of product of eye-gel cream.
This product is said to moisturize and sooth the skin around the eyes and made for people with sensitive skin.
It is ophthalmologically tested and is fragrance free, color free, and alcohol free. There are not added preservatives and it is fine for contact-lens wearers.

What do I think about this product?
So I have been using this eye gel-cream for about 4 months and even though I initially loved it (as I said my Aloe Skincare Line Sample Review) there are a couple problems I am having with it.
The pros are that it does not irritate my sensitive skin. It decreases swelling, redness, and irritation. It feels light and smooth and I don't need a lot for my eyes and I use it twice a day after I wash my face. I love the container. It comes in a cute pump form and you can easily pump out whatever amount you want depending on the pressure that you apply to the pump. It is hygienic and this pump will let you use up all of the product! None will be wasted! You can see as the bottom layer rises to the top as you use it and it will really hit the top when there is no cream left.
However, I have noticed that every time I put it on, my eyes actually feel dryer than more moisturized. I first thought I didn't put enough on or maybe most of it was evaporating, so I put on more, but it didn't change. I would feel a cooling effect after application (which is the evaporation part), but then my eyes would feel a bit stretched and dry and I don't know why. It feels dry before I put on eye cream and after I put on eye cream. So it is as if it does nothing when it comes to moisturization. I was really confused and I still feel really confused. I even got a 2nd one just in case it was because my skin had to adjust to it or something, but nope, I still felt dry after using this.
It is possible that it is just not moisturizing enough for me, which is sad, because I really like the product and it is relatively more affordable than other eye brands that are good. Also, because I feel dry after using the eye cream, my fine lines become even more apparent and get more wrinkly during the day because they are not properly moisturized. =_=.....T_T
And initially I felt it was moisturizing too, but maybe I was just too excited or something XP.
Another thing is that, sometimes when I put on more eye cream than usual (to try to compensate the dryness), I will rub my eye and these little rolls/balls of cream will form as I apply friction to my skin. (Just like when you rub your hands together and dirt stuff comes off.) This is annoying because then I have to spend time wiping all the cream residues away and if I wipe too hard, more will form. This is annoying and weird....I don't know what else to say =P. It is possible that the cream settles into my fine lines and when I rub my eyes, it comes out. But if this is true, then this eye cream doesn't do its job of moisturization and getting rid of fine lines....=(
So, I am not saying this is a bad product, I actually think it is a good product, but maybe it doesn't work well with my skin.

Do I recommend this product?
The answer is I don't know...I recommend this product as a good product to try for all skin types because I know it won't irritate anyone's skin. However, if you have very very dry skin, then this may not be for you. A good way to know is to try a sample of it at The Body Shop or ask for a sample of it to take home and use. I did that too, and it took a while before I got more negative effects.
I actually have oily eye lids which is weird because then I wouldn't need much moisturization. The fact that my eyelids feel drier after using the cream, means that maybe the cream is taking moisture away from my eyelids....I don't know...
Now, there are tons of reviews on this eye cream and they are like 98% positive with great feedback. Which means that it works for the majority of the population. As a gamble, this is worth it to try and if it works for you then great! I'm jealous haha because now I have to find a replacement. I recently got a sample from The Body Shop for their Vitamin E eyecream and I am liking that so far, so maybe I'll buy that one next!

Review on Neutrogena Makeup Wipe Remover vs Garnier Nutri-Pure for makeup removal

Neutrogena Make-up Remover Cleansing Towelettes

This product costs $6-8. It can be found at Ulta, any drugstore or online. It is said to remove dirt, oil, any kind of makeup, even water proof and waterproof mascara.
It contains 25 towelettes.

What do I think of this product?
So, I was looking for a quick, travel-friendly makeup remover towelettes and I picked this up at CVS and used it for at least 4 months. And...I did not like it. Yes it removes makeup well enough however the side effects were not good. My skin always stung when I used these wipes and would feel very tight and dry afterward. My skin would also get red and irritated after using these wipes. It was annoying and I really didn't like it.

Do I recommend this product?
If you have sensitive and/or dry skin I do not recommend these makeup remover wipes. They will make you sting, burn, and turn red. Try something else. If you feel your skin is tough enough to withstand these acidic wipes, then you are free to try, but in the long run, I do not think it is good for your skin.

Garnier Nutri-Pure detoxifying wet cleansing towelettes

This product costs $4-6 and can be found at any drugstore or online. It contains 25 towelettes and is said to be oil free with Vitamin E. B5, and grape extract as antioxidants and to prevent the skin from over drying. It is also said to contain green leaf extract to sooth and refresh the skin. It is said to remove dirt, oil, makeup and is dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested. It is said to be non-comedogenic and allergy tested.

What do I think of this product?
So, I got a sample pack from my aunt who asked me to try it out to see if I liked it. And I gave it a shot and was pleasantly surprised! =) This towelette removes all of my makeup well, which is good because I like waterproof makeup. It did not irritate or redden my sensitive skin. It did not feel any stinging or burning. My face did not feel tight but it may have felt a little dry. I'm okay with that because I always wash my face after removing makeup with a towelette anyway. I have been using this for about a month and I like it! I bought a full sized pack and threw away my Neutrogena one.

Do I recommend this product?
I recommend this product to all skin types! I really enjoy how it does not irritate my skin at all and because of that it feels refreshing! And of course, it does what it says, and removes all my makeup. =) If you happen to have very reactive, sensitive skin, talk to your dermatologist or go for more cream based makeup removers, but I think this is a great product to try. It is also cheaper than the Neutrogena one.

Comparison
Well, it's pretty obvious, but I like the Garnier version better because it does not irritate my skin. Perhaps the Neutrogena one is too intense or strong for my skin and may work for a tougher skin type. But if you want to try and buy a makeup remover wipe, I do recommend the Garnier one! And it is cheaper too! haha

Note: I tagged this under makeup and skincare because it is a part of the makeup removing process and more importantly important for the skincare process. When I say skincare process, I do not mean that you should use this for you skin. I don't think wipes are good enough to clean the skin everyday. I am saying it is a part of skincare because it is important to remove as much makeup as possible before you go to bed. =) Otherwise your pores will get clogged and you will get acne, which sucks. =/ So I hope this clarifies why this is under makeup and skincare! Thanks!
